How Digital Dice Rolling Works

Dice have been used for games and decision-making for over 5,000 years. Modern tabletop role-playing games like Dungeons and Dragons use a standard set of polyhedral dice: d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20, and d100 (percentile). Each die generates a uniformly random integer from 1 to the number of faces. This digital roller simulates these dice with perfect fairness, since each face has exactly equal probability.

The notation NdS+M means roll N dice with S sides each and add modifier M. For example, 2d6+3 means roll two six-sided dice and add 3 to the sum. Modifiers represent bonuses from character abilities, equipment, or situational effects. The distribution of sums when rolling multiple dice follows a bell curve: extreme values are rare, while middle values are common. Rolling 2d6 produces values from 2 to 12, but 7 is the most likely outcome.

This roller supports all standard dice types plus the d100 percentile die. The roll history keeps track of your previous rolls for easy reference during game sessions. Quick-roll buttons let you tap a die type for single-die rolls, while the full form supports multiple dice with modifiers. All results are generated using pseudorandom number generation, providing fair and unbiased outcomes for your tabletop adventures.
